The European missionaries understood the Ibo culture as recognizing ancient gods and worshiping ancestors. This is why they explained to the Ibos that there is only one God who controls the universe.
The Ibo on the other hand misunderstood the Europeans because they did not have an appreciation. This led them to perceive the misionaries as dangerous.
