year 1571 was a sign that the focus of the European states was shifting from the
Mediterranean to Atlantic. The battle of
Lepanto was a naval engagement in southwestern Greece’s waters between the
Christian forces of the Ottoman Turks and Holy League during the Ottoman
campaign to acquire the island of Cyprus in Venetian.
