There are no nothings following.
"Sphere" is quite an accurate description of the Earth's shape.
"Oblate spheroid" is even more accurate.
They're not the exact same thing. But if you saw the Earth right next to an oblate spheroid the same size, you couldn't tell it from a perfect sphere.
