A nice trick i use for word problems is that i highlight the numbers and what they are, like: liters, kilograms, grams, etc. say this is your word probem:
Suzie made 30 kilograms of party mix chips and 40 liters of punch for her party, Suzie had 20 people at her party, how much punch and party mix chips will there be when the party is over?
I highlighted what i would have highlighted if it was a real word problem.
