Rewrite both fractions to have a common denominator:

1/7 = 2/14

1/2 = 7/14

Now you have 2/14 + 7/14 = 9/14

You have to find a common denominator first. Which 2 and 7 have a common factor of 14 so now it’s 1/14+1/14. Which equals 2/14
