subtract 3 from (-3) and 12.
y+(-3)=12
-3 -3
now you'll cross out (-3)
-3
now, add 12 + 3 because the sign will change because it's a positive and a negative.

it will now be y=15 and it will be positive because 12 is the bigger number and it's a positive!
