People read things all the time online, and whether they are true or not, it still spreads information very quickly. Naturally there will be a bias that occurs, but if it is pretty even for both sides, I think they sort of cancel each other out and it's not a huge issue. However, if it is heavily biased on one side, then that becomes a problem because people are not getting equal voices on both sides.
