why have so many wars been fought over the region called the holy land

There is very much religious conflict in the area. If the Jews, Christians and Muslims all see the area as being sacred, it would make sense that each group would want to be in control of that land, leading to conflict. If one group had control over the Holy Land but the other groups wanted it, they would be willing to fight for it.
