Okay so combine like terms
10x-4x= 6x
2-8= -6

6x=-6
x= -1

Now to check:
10(-1)-2=4(-1)-8
-10-2=-4-8
-12=-12

10x-2=4x-8
-4x       -4x
6x-2=-8
+2      +2
6x=-6
divide by six on both sides
x=-1
