What happens when the deputation to the church attempts to "deal with Mr. Hooper about the mystery" of the veil is absolutely nothing. They literally do nothing - they may have been willing to do something about it, but once they were seated with Mr. Hooper about the issue, nothing happened as they were too afraid of him, and so the deputies returned home, "pronouncing the matter too weighty to be handled."
