A cup sitting on a table has potential energy, while not holding kinetic NRG; as the cup is at rest.

[tex] E_{p}= mgh[/tex]

As the mass and gravitational constant are constant and the height is not zero, the cup has potential NRG

[tex]E_{K}= \frac{mv^2}{2} [/tex]
            v= 0
[tex]E_{K}= \frac{m0^2}{2} = 0[/tex]

If we look at the formula for kinetic energy,the NRG is zero as v = 0
