Answer:

Instantaneous speed is a scalar quantity.

Instantaneous velocity is a vector quantity.

Consider an object moving at a constant speed in a circle.

There is no change in speed as the object continues in a circular motion.

The acceleration however is

a = v^2 / r    because a vector representing the object is continually changing direction and the change in velocity is not zero as time increases.
