The main goal of the Jim Crow era laws was to prevent African Americans from entering various institutions and organizations and placing severe restrictions on them.
The set of laws which were known as Jim Crow era laws were implemented in the Southern United States placing restrictions on the rights and privileges of African Americans. The laws also included the abolition of voting rights for African Americans.
It laid on setting up different institutions and organizations solely for African Americans and prevented them from entering the currently established institutions. For example:
- In public transport, no black and white people were allowed to travel together, and even if they were allowed separate chambers were allocated.
- In hospitals, black and white people were admitted to different wards.
- In public toilets also black and white people were not allowed and separate toilets were made.
