So you have 42x-100. We know x = 2, so we can plug it in like this

42(2) - 100

Because 42 and 2 are together like that, we have to multiply the two. The answer will be 84. Then we re-write this like so

84 - 100. Plug that in your calculator or in your head, and you should come up with -16!
