Why did sigmund freud believe dreams are important?

In my view, Freud emphasized the cognitive development of the human brain. He also believed that what's in your dream is the window into what you really are. You can actually trace or puzzle it if you could remember once you're awake. So, it would be better to write it down into your notes.
