A garden table and a bench cost

combined. The cost of the garden table is three times the cost of the bench. What is the cost of the bench?

Model it in two equations:

g + b = 1000
g = 3b

Then plug one into the other

3b + b = 1000
4b = 1000
b = 250, g = 750
