The US had captured the shore of Veracruz. The Battle of Veracruz was also dubbed as the Siege of Veracruz. This was a 20-day siege wherein the US and Mexico had fought over the boundary of Veracruz. The US wanted to use Veracruz as their base but the Mexicans did not agree to this. The Mexicans had tried to assault Veracruz but they were overpowered by the US army
