You must cut a birthday cake into exactly 8 pieces, but your're only allowed to make three straight cuts, and you can't move pieces of the cake as you cut. How can you do this? Plz help

Well, my first thought, if you look to the cake from above:
- make a big + with two cuts
- slice the cake, holding knife parallel to the table
