The Mexican Cession was acquired in 1848, as a result of a peace treaty after the Mexican-America War. The Gadsden Purchase was a purchase of land from Mexico, negotiated by the Ambassador to Mexico John Gadsden in 1953 for the equivalent of today's 260 million dollars.
