They pushed for the idea both in congress and among the people. This caused people to support the manifest destiny ideas that implied that countries like Mexico would have their territory taken away like California and Texas because according to it it was destined for the US to go from coast to coast. They described these tendencies as spreading democracy and enlarging the country.
