Edgar Allan Poe first met Virginia Eliza Clemn after he returned from military career in August 1829. He loved Virginia and wanted to marry her though she was 13 years younger to him. They were first cousins and he loved her dearly. He used to affectionately call her "wifey", "my darling", "my love" and Virginia also reciprocated the love by saying that she wanted to see Edgar happy though she knew she would die soon and she promised Edgar that she would be his guardian angel.
