The battle of Tours as its is commonly called prevented the islamic empire from conguering western Europe despite a number of successes such as Spain.The franks were just a group of germanic speaking people who had left the disintegrating Roman empire. Lossing in Tours deprived the islamic invaders off strategic supply base, and also weakened its force.
