It is worth noting that there were more downsides to the articles than upsides:

1) Lack of Congress power

2) Lack of Congress's ability to enforce the laws they enacted

3) Lack of Congress's ability to levy taxes and regulate trade


If you look at most of these problems, they were made specifically so that the U.S. government wouldn't overuse their powers as the British once had.
