Most meteorites burn up when they enter the atmosphere but on rare occasions  a meteorite will impact the earth. There isn't much evidence of this because of "erosion." Wind, rain, floods, oceans, ice ages and plate tectonics are all forms of erosion which recycle or change the surface of the earth by wiping away any evidence of a crater or other geological formations.
