Winning over the missipi river for the Union was a long process that involved the capture of new orleans and and Fort Donelson. the conguest ended up with the conquest of Vicksburg. these three region were very vital to ensure control of the missipi river, a fete that was made possible by superios water or river craft compared to the confederate forces.
