log_8(2) + log_8(4x^2) = 1

(adding logs of the same base is multiplying the insides of each of the logs)

log_8(8x^2) = 1

(the base raised to the exponent is equal to the inside of the logarithm)

8^1 = 8x^2

8 = 8x^2

1 = x^2

x = -1; x = 1
