When subtracting a negative from a negative, it is like adding a positve to a negative.

-a-(-b)= -a+b

Let's find like denominators, which is 4 because 9/12 can be simplified to 3/4.

-3/4-(-7/4)= -3/4+7/4

4/4=1

So, -9/12-(-7/4)= 1
