latitude is a measure of position north or south of the equator. Different
latitudes receive different amounts of sunlight, and consequently different
climate zones. For example, if the latitude is lower (places close to the
equator), the angle of the sun’s rays that reach the Earth is wider. Therefore,
the sun’s rays spread across a narrow area and more heat is received.
