Four less than the product of a number and 7 is eight more than that number

4 - 7x = 8 + x

We can find the value of x by making the following changes:

Add 7x to both sides

4 = 8 + 8x

Subtract 8 from both sides

-4 = 8x

Divide both sides by 8

x = -0.5
