I believe the answer is: logical thought.
During the preoperational stage children just gained the ability to engage in symbolic play and manipulate them (such as using blanket as a superman cape and pretend to be flying), and they still cannot utilizie their brain to form logical conclusion properly. This stage lasted between the age of 2-7 years old.
According to Piaget, preoperational children are not yet capable of logical thought.
