significant figures is the last answer for a problem, which is mostly used in chemistry to have the closest answer. for example: 1.24 + 32.134 = 33.158 as u can see, u have 3 significant figures from 1.24, the lowest numbers from the equation is your significant figures. if any question, plz ask, prove me wrong .-.
