Ok, so from what I see, they are related proportionally. One side of a square is related proportionally because in order to find the length, it's 2L(length)+2W(width). So without a side(such as width or length), you couldn't find the parameter.
For the area, a side is related proportionally because you need to multiply Length x Width(l x w).
