criminal law is basically laws that put away people for committing an crime like lets just say i walked up to you and shot you i would be put away for life with no parole due to the fact it was first degree murder.
now civil laws on the other hand deal with criminal offenses as well but mostly deal with overly drunk ppl and less minor offenses
