They were very upset over it because they did not want to leave their land. They loved their land and their life and the removal act forced them to leave their land and many times their way of life behind. Despite the claim that it would benefit Indians, the removal process hastened further seizure of Native American land and further disregard for Native American culture by the U.S. government.
