I think that the ants would prefer honey and maple syrup - as they're full of sugars that the ants can convert to energy.
I think that the ants would also locate the source of the food very fast and that they would go there directly -as if they were telling each other where the food is. And it is true, the ants can tell the other ants to follow them in the source of food, similarly to bees.
