In chemistry percentage yield is the [tex] \frac{actual yield}{theorectical yield} [/tex]  ×  100.

When a reaction takes place, a balance equation of the reaction can be used to calculate the theoretical yield based on the mole ratios.  The actual yield however is the amount of the product that forms when the reaction is carried out.
