If both parents had it, it would most likely that all of their children will get it, but since one doesn't have it, the gene has a 50/50 chance on spreading to the offspring or not. It also has a lot to do with the grandparents as there was probably a 25% or 50% chance that the parent with sickle cell gene got it from their parents.
