Yellow fever has occurred in unvaccinated travelers. During 1970–2002, 9 cases were reported in unimmunized travelers from the United States and Europe; disease was acquired in Brazil (3 cases), Senegal (2 cases), Venezuela, Ivory Coast, the Gambia, and West Africa. Mortality rate was 89%.
