Yes indeed it was saltwater, of course in the ocean its openly wide and ''exposed'' to many things so anything can go in there such as the following: Human corps, animal waste, dead animals, exotic land animals, bones and human waste, and human trash (litter and recycling material) as well. And with that type of exposure it can be salt water.
