The answer is the shift key
Holding down the shift key while dragging one of the four corners resizes your image freely without distorting it. The picture will stay in the exact same way as before. This trick will keep the aspect ratio the same as the original image. The image will be adjusted to a smaller size, but it will still have the same exact width-to-height ratio as the initial image.
