Normal cells go through the cell cycle at a normal pace, hitting all of the checkpoints to make sure that there is the correct number of everything and checks for mutations. A cancer cell on the other hand, is a cell that sped up the cell cycle and got away with mutations and did not stop at any checkpoints. Cancer is basically out of control cell production.
