Word problems requiring multiplication will commonly use key words such as:

times/multiplied by

twice, triple, etc.
each ("they got three each", etc.)
On the other hand, word problems requiring division will commonly use key words such as:
per
out of
ratio of/quotient of
percent (divide by 100)
pieces/split
average
