The age of the solar system is determined by dating meteorites. These are solid rock like objects that strike the surface of the earth. They can be composed of rocky minerals or iron.They also strike other objects in the solar system like moons and planets. By dating these rocks scientists have determined that the solar system is close to five billion years old.
