The Louisiana Purchase added to the size of the United States, but it also added to the nation's debt. It more than doubled the size of the US.

The Louisiana purchase. America bought this from France in 1803. They bought it for $10 million, or $200 million today. America wanted to spread west, and this purchase made this possible. The area of the purchase was 828,000 square miles. Hope this helps! ;)
