Dogs belong to the genus Canis and the species name is "Canis lupus" (Dogsare specifically canis lupus familiaris, while wolfs are also are in the species of canis lupus)
Some extinct species: Japanese river otter (excinct in 2012). Genus: Lutra, species: Lutra nippon
