The Northwest Ordinance of 1787 created the Northwest Territory. This was the frist Unincorporated Territory of United States.
Some key features were:
- slavery was not allowed in this territory:
- a call for a university (later Ohio University, still in existence
- it included the decision that between 3 and 5 states would be created out of this territory)
